Why Vegetable-Based Candles?

The first time heard of these candles, I thought "why in the world do we need veggie-based candles? What's wrong with the regular paraffin candles I've been burning for years?"
Then I started doing a bit of research and found there is a huge difference from candle to candle.

Did you know 9 out of 10 homes in Canada and the USA burn candles? Burning candles is no longer just a luxury for the few. It's a daily way to relax or invigorate for millions of people. But what are regular paraffin candles doing to the air we breathe in our homes and places of work. I learned that paraffin (which is a petroleum by-product) releases a substance into the air when burned which may be toxic. This is the air we breathe. Our children breathe. Our pets breathe.

Some people cannot tolerate being around burning candles. They can suffer what appears to be an allergic reaction - coughing, difficulty breathing, watery eyes. Why is this? Could it be the soot and the toxins released by the paraffin float through the air and makes it difficult for them? Is that why many asthmatics can't be around burning candles? If paraffin effects those with breathing problems this way, what is it doing to those with healthy lungs? Is it possible these candles could be causing damage to our health?

My son is one such person. He has asthma. But he loves burning scented candles! Finally I found strongly scented candles that don't cause difficulty for his breathing. There IS a difference with our candles! No more toxins floating around our home. No more "black" soot shadowing our walls. Hey - if the black reaches our walls and ceilings, then it's floating in the air, and we are breathing it in! It's as simple as that.

After learning more about paraffin and experiencing the difference in our home, I decided we were going to JUST SAY NO TO PARAFFIN! The health of my family was not worth the enjoyment of burning just any candles. Are you careful about what you bring into your home? Our candles are made using all-natural, renewable resources so we are supporting our farmers (even though I live in an oil-rich province, I prefer to support the struggling farmers). Even our wicks are 100% cotton. We NEVER use lead or zinc.

Does using natural resources mean we've compromised on the quality? Absolutely NOT! In fact, our candles last up to 50% longer than the brands found in stores. Plus they are scented all the way through so you won't notice the scent has died off after a few hours of burn time. Our 16oz jar candles last an average of 90-100 hours. Even our 2.5oz votives last an incredible 15-20 hours!

Our candles burn evenly too - from the first burn to the final flicker. Have you ever bought a jar candle, burned it for several hours and found 25% of the wax sticks to the side of the jar? Talk about waste! You purchased a 10oz or 16oz candle, and only get use of 8oz or 13oz because the rest is wasted. That's money down the drain - or should I say "up in smoke"!

One more benefit of our candles: they burn at a lower temperature than regular candles which makes the clean-up of accidental spills a breeze. Simply wash with warm, soapy water.
